The International PDS in Santiago, Chile provides opportunities for teacher candidates and faculty members from Buffalo State and Universidad Mayor to learn from one another - virtually and through study and service exchange activities.
Buffalo State teacher candidates and faculty travel to Santiago, Chile each June for three weeks. Universidad Mayor teacher candidates and faculty travel to Buffalo each February for three weeks.
Buffalo State Participants:
- engage in intensive Spanish language instruction at the ECELA language school
- develop Spanish language and cultural proficiency through home stays with Chilean families
- study of the Chilean education system through interactions with Universidad Mayor English Pedagogy teacher candidates and faculty
- learn about Chilean public schools by participating in the Global Book Hour and field experiences in Santiago’s School 25
- share their experiences while abroad through a blog at: http://chilepdsatbsedu.wordpress.com/
Universidad Mayor Participants:
- engage in Buffalo State education methods classes
- interact with teacher candidates and faculty throughout the campus
- complete a field experience at Herman Badillo Bilingual Academy (BPS #76)
International PDS - Dominican Republic
Location: Cabarete, Dominican Republic (Caribbean)

The International PDS in Cabarete, Dominican Republic provides opportunities for EER and EXE teacher candidates from Buffalo State to share and learn teaching techniques through service learning activities.
Buffalo State teacher candidates and faculty/staff travel to Cabarete, Dominican Republic each January for 3 weeks.
Buffalo State Participants:
- teach and observe at 3 Mariposas Montessori, a unique early childhood development program focused on providing quality education for Dominican and Haitian children living in poverty
- engage in intensive Spanish language instruction at Cabarete Language Institute
- develop an understanding and appreciation of Dominican culture through daily mealtime with families from 3MM
- learn about Dominican public schools by visiting classrooms and visiting with professors and students at PUCMM, a private university in Santiago de los Caballeros
- engage in comparative research regarding US and Dominican experiences and share findings with fellow students
International PDS - Zambia
Location: Lusaka, Zambia (Africa)

The International PDS in Lusaka, Zambia provides opportunities for teacher candidates from Buffalo State to gain exposure to Zambian culture and educational system by immersing in teaching math, science and social studies.
Buffalo State teacher candidates and faculty/staff travel to Lusaka, Zambia each June for 3 weeks.
Buffalo State Participants:
- observe Zambian teaching models and practices for science, math, and social studies at Libala Basic School
- participate in a penpal exchange with students from Libala Basic School
- develop lasting cross cultural professional relationships
