Why choose Buffalo State College?
The preparation of teachers at both the undergraduate and graduate levels continues as one of the major responsibilities of Buffalo State College. The quality and diversity of the professional education programs have earned the college an excellent reputation for teacher preparation within New York State and across the nation.
Collaboration with educators in Western New York, sharing expertise and resources in various settings, strengthens our program. The Elementary Education and Reading Department collaborates with more than 45 schools in Western New York that serve as Professional Development Schools (PDS). College faculty, school administrators, and practicing teachers deliberate on how to cooperatively supervise teacher candidates and provide closer connections to classroom practice, promote professional development for in service teachers, improve student learning, and research educational practice for school reform. As a result, students have many opportunities to observe and practice teaching throughout their professional sequence in the majors under the guidance of our talented and accomplished faculty.
