Master's Including Initial Teacher Certification (MIITC) Childhood (Grades 1-6)

About the Program
The MIITC program will culminate in a Master of Science in Education degree and fulfills course requirements for initial and professional New York State certification in Childhood and Early Childhood Education (Birth-Grade 6).
Admissions Requirements
1. Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with an academic major in one of the liberal arts or sciences. Please submit transcripts from all colleges attended.
2. Applicants must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (4.0 scale).
3. Submit a copy of your New York State Liberal Arts and Sciences Test (LAST) scores or a receipt indicating your scheduled LAST test date.
4. Submit a completed Application Requirement Worksheet (included in application packet) detailing:
a. College-level work in English, mathematics, science, and social studies.
b. Your undergraduate major or courses applicable to an acceptable concentration area.
c. Two years of high school or two semesters in college in one foreign language (high school transcript should be submitted with application).
5. Complete a word-processed statement addressing the following:
a. Your reasons for wanting to become a childhood education teacher.
b. Your related professional experiences.
Your statement will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
a. Organization
b. Conventions of language
c. Content

6. Submit three reference letters on special department forms (included in application packet) that attest to the applicant’s potential as a graduate student and as a teacher. Please note that two references must be from college professors/instructors.
7. Supplemental application forms for this program may be downloaded from the Graduate School Web site.
Applicants will be judged on demonstrated academic records; the strength of recommendations; and the quality of the candidate’s statement of professional interests, goals and relevant personal experiences.
Because of the high volume of applications received, not all qualified applications may be admitted. A personal interview may be required at the option of the Admissions Committee. To receive initial certification, students must successfully pass the applicable New York State certification exams.

Application Deadline Dates
Application, transcripts, and all supplemental materials are due by October 1 (for spring), March 1 (for summer) or May 1 (for fall). All documentation and test scores need to be submitted by the application deadline in order to process your application. Please return your completed application and all supplemental materials to the Graduate School Office, Cleveland Hall 204.
