The Department hosts two professional student organizations: Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) and Kappa Delta Pi.
ACEI
The Mission of the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI) is to promote and support the optimal education and development of children, from birth through early adolescence in the global community. ACEI also influences the professional growth of educators and the efforts of others who are committed to the needs of children in our changing society. Since 1892, ACEI members have worked to make the world better place for children.

KAPPA DELTA PI
Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Society in Education, is a prestigious organization dedicated to scholarship and excellence in education. Founded in 1911, the society has a long history of openness. It welcomes a wide variety of intellectual ideas regardless of gender, race, ethnic background, handicap, or age. Many famous educators, including Benjamin Bloom, James Fulbright, Howard Gardner, and John Goodlad, have been members of Kappa Delta Pi.
In the Gamma Mu Chapter at Buffalo State College, we believe that as a college student you can expand your educational experience through interaction with the community, educators, and other society members.
Kappa Delta Pi’s national headquarters in Indianapolis, Indiana, establishes the criteria for membership into the Gamma Mu Chapter at Buffalo State College. Only the top 10% of students and professionals in the field of education are awarded membership. Initiation into the society requires a grade point average of 3.2 or above, completion at least 50 total credit hours of course work at any college, completion or the expectation to complete at least 12 credit hours in education at Buffalo State College.
Letters of invitation are sent out in September to qualified students. If you do not receive a letter of invitation by the end of September and think you meet the criteria, you can nominate yourself.
