ENGLISH DEPARTMENT

The English Department at Buffalo State College is dedicated to the intellectual, personal, and professional growth of its students and faculty, and it has a commitment to contribute positively to the extended community. Its focus is on literary studies, the teaching of exemplary written and oral expression, and the development of reflective teachers of English (7-12). Our academic programs engage students in thinking critically about the social and historical role of the arts and humanities.

The goal of the department is to teach the skills necessary for our students to engage in the processes of reading, writing, and exchanging ideas for the rest of their lives. We are dedicated to maintaining a nurturing and intellectually vital environment for thoughtful communication among students, faculty, and the larger community through excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.

The English Department also dedicates itself to the highest quality preparation of English language arts teachers (7-12) through its strong content base, modeling of effective teaching, and attention to the needs of diverse learners.
