Tim Bryant received his Ph.D. in English from the University at Buffalo, two M.A. degrees in English and in Library and Information Science from the University of Iowa, and a B.A. in English from Washington University in St. Louis. He wrote his dissertation, Ordinary Transcendence, on representations of secularized spiritual authority in American literature and culture since the Civil War. His research interests focus on representations of social authority, especially that of the professions, in popular literature, film, and other media. He teaches courses on American literature and culture, American Indian and ethnic literature, literary analysis and interpretation, and college and professional writing.
