Meet the Faculty

Kevin J. Miller

Dr. Kevin J. Miller joined the Exceptional Education Department faculty at Buffalo State College in 2006 and was appointed Chair in 2008. He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX; Master’s Degree in Special Education, with emphasis on Transition Facilitation, from Buffalo State College; and a Doctor of Education in Special Education Degree from West Virginia University. Dr. Miller has an extensive history of professional service at national, state, and community levels. Leadership positions and contributions to national and state organizations include serving on the Board of Directors for the American Council of Rural Special Education, editorial board of reviewers for several journals, and as the New York State Council for Exceptional Children CAN (Children and Youth Action Network) Coordinator. Dr. Miller has over 80 publications and conducted over 105 presentations and 30 workshops at local, state, national, and international levels. Throughout his career, Dr. Miller has worked in a variety of special education-related positions across the country. His experiences including being a teacher aide, bus aide, and special education teacher, as well as working with teacher candidates, teachers, school administrators, school districts, students with disabilities, and parents of individuals with disabilities. His professional interests remain in teacher preparation, children with learning and behavior challenges, secondary education, and transition programming for students with disabilities. Dr. Miller teaches courses for the Exceptional Education Department and doctoral seminars in the UB/Buffalo State Joint Doctoral Program in Special Education.
