Awilda E. Ramos Zagarrigo, Ph.D., has been at Buffalo State since 2008. Prior to her appointment in the Exceptional Education Department, Dr. Zagarrigo worked in the Buffalo Public School system over 20 years as a bilingual special education teacher and a teacher's aide. She continues to be involved with the Buffalo Public Schools system as a member of the Multilingual Education Advisory Council (MEAC). She is the 2012-2013 President of the New York State Association for Bilingual Education (NYSABE). Her research interests are in the areas of bilingual education, reading improvement for English language learners with and without disabilities, and advocacy.
