FINANCE AND MANAGEMENT

BROAD-BASED FEES

Athletics play an important role in the college experience.  At Buffalo State, the student athletic fee increases stability in the funding of  the intercollegiate athletics program, which provides eight men's varsity sports teams, ten women's varsity sports teams, intramurals and recreational programs. Specifically, the athletic fee:

  1. Provides team equipment and equipment used to maintain athletic facilities
  2. Underwrites transportation, meals and other expenses for numerous men's and women's teams, including those for football, basketball, track and field, soccer, hockey, lacrosse, volleyball and swimming
  3. Supports salaries for individuals who coach the teams, manage the athletic programs and maintain the campus athletic facilities

Buffalo State competes at the NCAA Division III level and is associated with the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) as well as the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

The SUNY policy on intercollegiate athletics governs funding of intercollegiate athletics programs, and the SUNY policy on fees, rentals and other charges authorizes use of the athletics  fee.  Buffalo State's Intercollegiate Athletics Board (IAB) monitors, reviews and recommends policy for campus intercollegiate athletics programs.
