Www.FAFSA.ed.gov is the only official federal website for completing the FAFSA. If you go to a site that charges a fee or otherwise solicits your business you have not gone to the correct website.
The easiest way to complete the FAFSA online is to print and complete the FAFSA on the Web Worksheet first and then enter the data from the worksheet into the FAFSA. The pre-application worksheet is found in the "Before Beginning a FAFSA" section of the FAFSA site.
Both the student and one parent (if student is considered dependent) will need to enter their PIN numbers. If you do not do so the FAFSA will be invalid until the signatures have been provided either via a paper signature page or electronically (via the PIN).
