FINE ARTS DEPARTMENT

Students who pursue a B.A. in art receive a well-rounded liberal arts education that emphasizes the creative visual arts. In this program, majors chart their own courses of study from choices in the Fine Arts and Design Departments.

Students who pursue a B.A. in art history study human achievement in the visual arts and architecture from prehistoric times to the present. Students become familiar with the discipline of art historical investigation, using research and scholarship methods common to art history and related humanistic disciplines. The program provides a broad foundation for graduate study in art history and suitable preparation for further study and careers in art conservation, historic preservation, tourism, and cultural affairs.

Students who pursue a bachelor of fine arts focus on painting, photography, printmaking, or sculpture to prepare for careers as professional artists with emphasis on studio work. Sometimes this includes expertise in related commercial areas.
