Mariam Ghani, Year of the City Artist Talk

Time: 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Location: Burchfield Penney Art Center

Artist Mariam Ghani will give a presentation of her works at the Burchfield Penney Art Center Auditorium. This presentation is free and open to the public.

Ghani is a Brooklyn-based artist, writer, and teacher. Her research-based practice operates at the intersections between place, memory, history, language, loss, and reconstruction. Her work in video, installation, and photography has been exhibited and screened internationally, including at dOCUMENTA (13) in Kassel and Kabul, the Sharjah Biennials 9 and 10, the 2005 Liverpool Biennial, the Beijing 798 Biennial, the Museum of Modern Art, the Tate Modern, the National Gallery, the International Film Festival Rotterdam, transmediale in Berlin, and Futura in Prague. She is currently a visiting scholar at NYU's Asian Pacific American Institute.

The event is made possible through funding from the Year of the City, the School of Natural and Social Sciences, and the Fine Arts Department with support from the Dr. Margaret Bacon Fund.

Lecture: The Venetian Cities of Crete

Time: 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Location: Burchfield Penney Art Center

Join the art history program in welcoming visiting scholar Dr. Maria Georgopoulou, director of the Gennadius Library in Athens, Greece, in presenting the lecture "The Venetian Cities of Crete." The lecture will present the architectural and archaeological evidence for the Venetian domination of Crete from 1204 to 1669 A.D.

The lecture is sponsored by the art history program of the Fine Arts Department and the School of Arts and Humanities Dean's Office, with generous funding from the Dr. Margaret E. Bacon Fund, in conjunction with the Year of the City at Buffalo State.
