May 24, 2007 - Learning Community Professional Development Day
The morning workshops are open to all faculty and staff.
- Teaching for integrative learning
Presenter: Scott Johnson
Time: Thursday May 24th 9:00 – 10:30
Place: Bengal Club, Sports Arena
Description: Open to all faculty. Integration of knowledge from many disciplines is a key aspect of a liberal arts education, as well as of learning communities. This seminar will explore pedagogical strategies for integration across courses and disciplines.
- Building Community in your classroom/co-curricular activities
Presenter: Tim Ecklund
Time: Thursday May 24th 10:30 – 12:00
Place: Bengal Club, Sports Arena
Description: Open to all faculty and staff. Help students learn material by building stronger social connections. See how course material can be supplemented by purposefully designed, out-of-class experiences.
- The afternoon session will be designed for planning for next year
July 18, 19, August 1, 2, and 23 - First Year Orientation Sessions
These are critical times for recruiting students into the program. History shows us that meeting the individual faculty is critical for attracting students. If possible plan to be present for our presentations and resource fair times where we recruit our students. More specific information on times and locations to follow.
August 24 - Learning Community Orientation:
This is our first substantive introduction to the students. It's critical that all of us attend. The day opens with activities for all students, moves into individual community activities. We will conclude with the First Year Convocation and Picnic.
