Hello. My research interests principally focus on evaluating water quality in urban-impacted water bodies. In particular, I'm interested in source trackdown of indicator bacteria, various organic (PCBs and PAHs), and inorganic (metals) contaminants; evaluation of the impacts that combined sewer overflows have on receiving water bodies; and demonstration and assessment of combined sewer overflow abatement options. This research involves both extensive field work and use of mathematical models such as the Stormwater Management Model and BASINS (Better Assessment Science Integrating Point and Nonpoint Sources). In addition, I have interests in identifying the environmental correlates that promote the outbreak of avian botulism in prairie lakes and non-destructive image analysis to determine suspended sediment size distribution and settling velocity characteristics.
