Admissions
Admissions Requirements
Admission is granted jointly by the Graduate School and the academic department in which the student plans to pursue his or her studies. For admission to graduate study, a student must:
- Hold an approved baccalaureate degree granted by an institution which is accredited by an approved regional accrediting agency or its equivalent (for international applicants).
- Have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale) of the baccalaureate degree.
Individual departments may establish higher standards for admission or require entrance tests such as the Graduate Record Exam (GRE), the Miller Analogies test (MAT)*, or other materials. Specific program requirements appear under graduate programs and in the graduate catalog. Application deadlines vary by program.
Admissions applications, application fee payment forms, transcript request forms, and supplemental department materials are available in the Forms and Policies section and through the Graduate School office.
*The Graduate School administers a paper-and-pencil version of the Miller Analogies Test (MAT) year-round on the third Thursday of each month from 2:30–4:30 p.m. A printable version of the Candidate Information Booklet is available at the MAT Web site. Free practice exams for the Miller Analogies Test are available online.
The MAT Test fee is $80.00. Payment must be in the form of a money order payable to Buffalo State College. The fee covers one personal Score Report that will be mailed to you, and up to three Official Transcripts that will be sent to schools you specify. Please refer to the booklet, "Scoring and Score Reporting," for a full explanation of score reporting.
To schedule the MAT test and for additional information, contact the Graduate School Office.
