Environmental Research and Education Option
This option focuses on study of the Great Lakes environment and includes the disciplines of anthropology, biology, chemistry, design, earth sciences and science education, geography and urban/regional planning. The program imparts the broad-based understanding and technical knowledge necessary to deal with complex issues facing lake and coastal environments.
Admission Requirements
- Completion of a Graduate Admission Application packet (pdf). Current Buffalo State graduate students wishing to change majors, must complete a Change of Major Application (pdf). Hardcopy applications are available at the Graduate Studies Office.
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 (4.0) scale in the last 60 credit hours.
- Statement of Intent includes:
- Your professional or educational objectives to be obtained through a multidisciplinary approach to the master's degree.
- Reasons you are interested in pursuing the environmental research and education option.
- A detailed outline of the proposed plan of study, including specific courses with course numbers and titles. Your plan of study must comply with the Program and College Regulations.
- The statement of intent will be evaluated as a writing sample, indicative of academic success at the graduate level. Please type and proofread it prior to submission.
- Three letters of recommendation
- Acceptable Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores
- An interview with the option coordinator. Please contact the Great Lakes Center for Environmental Research and Education at 716-878-4329 for an appointment once you have submitted your application packet.
- Submit a Principal Adviser (PA) Consent Form (pdf). Prior to admission, applicants must identify a principal adviser from the graduate faculty and obtain the faculty member's consent to serve as the principal adviser. Contact the Great Lakes Center for Environmental Research and Education at 878-4329 if assistance is needed in selecting a principal adviser. A hardcopy PA Consent Form is available at the Graduate School Office.
