About the Postbaccalaureate Teacher Certification Programs
The Postbaccalaureate Teacher Certification Programs are designed for the student who has earned an undergraduate degree in a professional field or a liberals arts and sciences area but now wishes to become a teacher.
No degree or certificate is awarded by Buffalo State to students completing teacher certification programs. Certification is granted by New York State Department of Education (www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert).

Each Buffalo State teacher certification program differs in its requirements. Requirements are determined via an evaluation of the student’s undergraduate transcript and the New York State teacher certification regulations. Evaluations are performed by the department in which the student is interested in teaching. Some certification programs may include only undergraduate courses while others require coursework at both the graduate and undergraduate levels. If graduate coursework is completed during the certification program, these credits will be applied to the student’s master’s degree program.
