GREAT LAKES CENTER

RESEARCH PROGRAMS

The Great Lakes Center has made a substantial commitment to the study of the contributing watersheds on the Great Lakes.  The majority of our effort is focused on the Buffalo River watershed, an urban watershed and one of the 47 Areas of Concern in the Great Lakes.  However, we are also studying suburban and rural watersheds and have recently undertaken a project to closely monitor dynamics and nutrient transport in  forested watershed near Buffalo.

Much of our research can be directly applied to the serious problems that impact the region’s watersheds.  We work closely with natural resource agencies responsible for the health of the watersheds so that appropriate management measures can be implemented to remediate existing pollution and control new sources of pollution.

Research Themes

  • Origin and Fate of Contaminants
  • Watershed Biogeochemistry
