Situated on the Black Rock Canal near the head of the Niagara River, the Field Station consists of facilities for work in aquatic ecosystems, water chemistry, and fish aquaculture. General laboratory space houses a variety of technical instruments used in water and soil chemistry analysis, microscopy, aquaculture, and specimen culture and experiments. There is also an array of field equipment for collecting samples in the Great Lakes and their contributing waters. Dock, boat launch ramp, safety gear, maintenance equipment, and boat storage are available on site to serve the center's research vessels.
In addition, the adjacent Dick Smith Outdoor Classroom offers an enclosed space for lectures and meetings.
