GREAT LAKES CENTER

FACILITIES

At a length of 46 feet, a beam of 16 feet, and a displacement of 30 tons, the R/V Seneca is the workhorse of the fleet.  It is a converted USCG buoy tender, capable of close support work and heavy lifting, making ideal for a variety of tasks.  It has an Azimuth Drive propulsion system that allows the props to be rotated 360o so that the vessel can actually be maneuvered sideways, and its massive H-boom can lift 6000 lbs.  It has been retrofitted with hydraulically-operated reels capable of deploying nets usually found only on commercial fishing vessels. Its navigation system includes a Raytheon radar, an Autohelm depth sounder, and a Garmin GPS.
