The Environmental Toxicology Lab is a state-of-the-art facility housed in four laboratories and two office suites in the Science Building on the campus of Buffalo State College. Chemical analytical equipment housed in the labs include:1) Varian model 3400 and Hewlett Packard model 5890 gas-liquid chromatographs (computer-controlled) with electron-capture and flame-ionization detectors and autosamplers; 2 Varian models 5060 and 9010 with autosampler and HP models 1090 and 1090M high pressure liquid chromatographs equipped with ternary gradient system, autosampler and diode-array detector, fluorescence detector, and HP Data System; 3) Perkin-elmer 507infrared spectrometer; 4) Beckman LS 3801 liquid scintillation counter; 5) Packard model 306D Tri-Carb Sample Oxidizer; 6) two Radiomatic's FLO-ONE/Beta Radioactivity flow Detector for HPLC; 7) several UV/VIS recording spectrophotometers including Perkin Elmer Lambda 4 with kinetic software; 8) Perkin Elmer LS-5B fluorescence spectrophotometer with flow cell accessory. 9) Sorvall RC5 refrigerated centrifuge (with SS34 and SA-600 rotors); 10) Beckman L-5 75B ultra centrifuge equipped with W2t integrator and UV recording prep scanner for quantitative analytical studies; equipments for thin-layer and column chromatograph; 11) four fraction collectors (Isco Foxy, LKB super rack and Haake-Buchler); 12) polytron tissue homogenizer; 13) Bronson Sonifer, 14) three Buchi rotary evaporators; 15) two Forma Scientific -90oC freezers.
In addition, the researchers of the GLC also have access to the Mass Spectral Facility of the Department of Chemistry, State University of New York at Buffalo. This facility has: (A) KRATOS MS8ORFA double focusing medium resolution gas chromatograph mass spectrometer equipped with Carol-Erba capillary GC, chemical ionization, electron impact positive-negative ionization and fast atom bombardment accessory for high-molecular-weight species desorption and ionization. Also equipped with DS55 data system controlling all instrument parameters, and (B) a DuPont 21-4918 gas chromatograph mass spectrometer with electron impact or chemical ionization sources and adapted for multiple ion detection using programmable power supplies.
In addition, the Environmental Toxicology Lab houses a fish aquaculture facility used to hold fish used in toxicology experiments.
