Phi Alpha Theta


Chi Alpha Chapter
We are a professional society whose mission is to promote the study of history through the encouragement of research, good teaching, publication and the exchange of learning and ideas among historians. We seek to bring students and teachers together for intellectual and social exchanges, which promote and assist historical research and publication by our members in a variety of ways.

Undergraduate Membership Requirements

  • Minimum of 12 semester hours (four courses) in History
  • Minimum 3.1 GPA in History
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA overall
  • One-time initiation fee of $40.00
  • Membership is not limited to History majors

Graduate Membership Requirements

  • Minimum of 12 semester hours towards their master's degree in history
  • Minimum 3.5 GPA
  • Completed 30% of residence requirements for their master's degree
  • One-time initiation fee of $40

Faculty Membership

  • Above the rank of instructor who teach history automatically qualify
  • One-time initiation fee of $40
