At the core of the department's mission statement is the development of "enterprising" students through distinctive educational experiences, including membership or leadership in student organizations
The Hospitality and Tourism Department sponsors and encourages membership in two student organizations: the Club Managers Association of America (CMAA) and the National Society of Minorities in Hospitality (NSMH). Both clubs provide excellent opportunities for leadership positions and participation in chapter activities that include field trips; guest lectures; local, regional, and national conferences; scholarship opportunities; and professional networking.
