INTERNATIONAL GRADUATE PROGRAMS FOR EDUCATORS

PROGRAM INFORMATION

There is no automatic transfer of credit toward a graduate degree. A maximum of 15 graduate-level credit hours of transfer work may be applied to the Multidisciplinary Degree program. Your advisory committee and the Dean of the Graduate School will review your official transcripts for transfer coursework credits.

A. Transfer work earned at another accredited institution must:

      1. be equitable to 500-, 600-, or 700-level graduate semester courses.  If the institution granting the credit uses the quarter system, credit hours will be converted to semester hours using the following equation:

          1 quarter hour  = 2/3 (.66) semester hour

          2 quarter hours = 1 1/3 (1.33) semester hours

          3 quarter hours = 2 (2.0) semester hours

      2. be a coherent part of the required program of study and be approved by the student’s program advisory committee and Dean of Graduate School.

      3. be completed within the six-year (6) period immediately preceding the date of graduation.

B. Only grades of A or B are acceptable for transfer. Grades of S or P are not acceptable.

C. Coursework taken to fulfill degree requirements for one master’s degree or certificate of advanced study may not be applied toward another master’s degree.

D. Students whose coursework is NOT from a U.S. or Canadian college or university must obtain a course-by-course evaluation from either World Education Services, Inc., or Joseph Silny and Associates (see Admissions Requirements for contact information).

E. Transfer courses must be equitable to 500-, 600- or 700-level graduate courses. Extension or continuing education course credits cannot be transferred in to the degree program. Several universities offer extension or continuing education courses and students have mistakenly thought that the coursework was graduate level coursework. Extension or continuing education credits cannot be transferred into graduate degree programs at most institutions.

F. Official transcripts of transfer credit must be provided to International Graduate Programs for Educators.

Transfer credit requests should be presented for consideration at the time when the student completes an Application for Degree Candidacy.  Approved transfer credit is added to the student’s official record when the student’s approved Application for Degree Candidacy and/or official transcripts of transfer credit are received by International Graduate Programs for Educators.
