Nancy Chicola, associate professor, Elementary Education and Reading, presented the workshop "Creating Caring Communities: Making Differences through Books and the Arts" at the 83rd annual conference of the National Council for the Social Studies, held in Chicago, Illinois, November 14–16. Connecting the "Learning to Care" paradigm with books and arts activities, participants were involved in creative experiences that assist elementary school children in developing caring communities in a changing world.
