John Song, professor and chair, Criminal Justice, presented two papers on Vietnamese and Latinos' adaptation to the police in Orange County, California, at the annual meeting of the American Society of Criminology, held in Denver, Colorado, on November 23. Recently elected president of the Asian Association of Police Studies, Song participated in two paper presentations at the association's fourth annual meeting in Seoul, Korea, December 15–17: With James Gillham, professor, Criminal Justice, he presented "Challenges Associated with Immigration Laws against Human Smuggling," for which they were awarded a Certificate of Achievement for the "Outstanding Quality of the Paper" by the association and the Korea National Police University. He also presented "Challenges of Ecstasy Trade to Security and Crime Control in Asian Societies" with graduate student Roger Fung. Song will organize the association's fifth annual meeting at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, in August.
