General Education 2000 (GE2k) Information
New GE2k policies for the 2006-2007 academic year:
- Two disciplines are no longer required to fulfill the three Civilizations categories.
- For all students, the foreign language requirement will be proficiency to the level of completing two foreign language courses (101,102) or the equivalent.
- The math requirement has been revised so that students can take any of the following to satisfy basic math: MAT 103, MAT 122, MAT 126, MAT 161, MAT 270, MAT 301, MAT 311, MED 383.
- Students who have taken three semesters of a college-level, credit-bearing foreign language (101, 102, 201) can use the 101-level course in the GE2k Humanities category.
- Students who have taken foreign language in high school and used those courses to satisfy Buffalo State’s language requirement, and then retaken the high school language here, can use that course in the Humanities category.
- Sign language is approved as a substitute for foreign language if it is approved by the dean of a given department. The associate vice-president for curriculum and assessment and the provost must approve and forward to SUNY.
- Students receiving AP English 4&5 are exempt from ENG 102. The Undergraduate Catalog needs to be changed before this practice is discontinued.
