Associate Vice President's Welcome

Maryruth F. Glogowski, M.L.S.Welcome to the E. H. Butler Library Web pages. In 1995 members of the library staff actually started the Buffalo State College Web site in order to have a virtual space to deliver electronic information to our patrons. Since that time we have added more and more information on almost a daily basis. The campus site is maintained by College Relations and Computing Services now, but library staff members design the library pages.

We spend about $600,000 per year on subscriptions that are delivered through these pages: encyclopedias, indexes, and full-text articles from more than 41,000 serials and journals. We hope that having access from any computer or wireless Web device, any time of the day or night helps our patrons to do their research more effectively.

We do have a lovely building with 600,000 books and more than one million research materials. We also have skilled and helpful staff who are here 110 hours each week to interact with you in person. Our self-contained extended hours facility, StudyQuad, is open and staffed 24/7 so you can prepare for classes whenever you want. An expansion of that facility incorporating a quiet area is planned for 2008-2009.

We have an array of new computers throughout the library to allow you to do research in our building. We even have wireless access and plugins for ethernet, so you can bring your laptop or borrow one of ours. Check the online catalog for the call numbers and then go up to the stacks for the latest academic books. We have the best of both worlds at Butler Library: real and virtual.

I encourage you to explore our collections, use our services, and make recommendations for purchase or improvements. We are here to assist you in your scholarly pursuits and welcome your comments.
