Creative Studies Computer Lab will be closed for the summer, beginning 5/18/09.

The Creative Studies Library, a non-circulating special collection, is housed on the balcony (BUTL 275) above the Information Commons. It contains more than 3,700 classified books, nearly 2,000 dissertations on microfilm, a few file cabinet drawers with abstracts of dissertations and pre-1970 unpublished papers. The Creative Studies Library also includes 20 computers and is designated as a Quiet Computer Lab for students who prefer a noise-free work area. In Archives and Special Collections there are materials of E. Paul Torrance, John Curtis Gowan, and J. P. Guilford on loan from the Creative Education Foundation. Contact the Archivist at 878-6304 for an appointment to use this archival collection.

The Creative Studies Library is an integral part of Butler Library. The content of the collection is comprehensive but very focused, related to the field of creativity, its psychological aspects and applications in the area of education, business, the social sciences, the arts, and technology. It is not a stand-alone collection, however, and depends upon the holdings in the rest of the library to broaden the understanding of the discipline.

All books in the Creative Studies Library are listed in the library catalog by author, subject, and title. An outline of the Library of Congress Classification of Books will aid in browsing the Creative Studies Library.

Journal articles and other periodical literature can be identified using databases such as ERIC, PsycINFO, and Academic Search Complete. These resources are available to Buffalo State students, faculty, and staff and are found on the library's Periodical Databases Web page. Another excellent resource is the Creativity Based Information Resources (CBIR) Online Database. This database was developed and is maintained by the International Center for Studies in Creativity at Buffalo State. The library also subscribes to three creativity journals: Journal of Creative Behavior, Creativity Research Journal, and Creativity and Innovation Management.

Anyone needing assistance in the use of the Creative Studies Library should visit or call the Reference Desk at 878-6300.
