Located on the second floor of the library, Media Services provides a comfortable computer lab complete with PC and Macintosh computers, a networked laser printer, CD burners, scanners, microform readers and printers, and a variety of audiovisual equipment.

Media Services is proud to offer a diverse array of DVDs, CDs, and videocassettes. Among items of interest, you'll find the 101 Greatest Screen Plays DVD collection, a wide variety of boxed music sets, and educational videos covering a broad range of subjects. Viewing and listening rooms are available for use with the presentation of a Buffalo State ID card.

Monday – Thursday: 8 a.m. - 11 p.m.

Friday: 8 a.m. – 9 p.m.

Saturday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Sunday: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Summer Hours:

Monday – Thursday: 8 a.m. - 9 p.m.

Friday and Saturday: 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Sundays: Closed

Borrowing Media Items

Most of our DVDs and videocassettes circulate for a one week period, while music CDs circulate for two weeks. Media items that are not returned by the due date are subject to overdue fines. When making plans to use the collection, always be sure to verify the availability of an item in the catalog.

Reserve Items

Many professors place media items on reserve for required listening or viewing. Before requesting reserve items at the Media counter, please search Course Reserves to note the title and call number. You'll need a valid Buffalo State ID card to use reserve materials, which are restricted to in-room use only.

If you are a faculty member and wish to place a media item on reserve, simply enter your request through our online reserve form.

Much of our music collection can now be found in our online music databases. Explore these great sites—you can even make a play list and listen from home!

African American Song
Digital online collection of over 16,000 historical music tracks covering a variety of genres.

American Song
Digital online collection of American music covering genres such as country, folk, blues, bluegrass, Native American, old time, gospel, and more.

Classical Music Library
Digital online collection of classical music, including opera, chamber, orchestra, vocal & choral, and more.

Classical Scores Library
A growing collection of classical music scores from the Renaissance to the present.

Contemporary World MusicBuffalo State username and password required Resource contains audio
Digital online collection of over 20,000 music tracks—both contemporary and traditional—from many countries and cultures.

Naxos Music Library
Extensive online library of music recording from Naxos and other independent labels. Includes a variety of genres including classical, jazz, world/folk, and new age, with liner notes and background information.

Smithsonian Global Sound for Libraries
Digital online collection of music from many North American and global traditions. Also includes spoken word, poetry, prose, and sound effects.

Microforms

Media houses a variety of materials on microfilm and microfiche, including journals, magazines, and newspapers. Publications on microform are listed in the library catalog. Special equipment is available that allows you to read and print this material. Ask at the Media Services counter for help in locating microforms and using the equipment.
