Book Index with Reviews - Information on millions of books including fiction and non-fiction titles in all genres, many with full-text reviews.

Books in Print - Directory of in-print, out-of-print, and forthcoming books published in the U.S., many with reviews.

Choice Reviews Online - Over 100,000 reviews of books, media, electronic sources, and other material from the journal Choice: Current Reviews for Academic Libraries. (September 1988 – present)

For short, critical reviews of books for children and young adults, try Horn Book Guide Online.

Book Review Digest (Ref Z1219 C96) is available in the Information Commons and has abstracts of reviews from 1905-1998.

Academic Search Premier and LexisNexis Academic also include many full-text reviews.

Finding Books at Local Libraries

If Butler Library doesn’t have the book you want, search the catalog of another library in the area and visit in person.

    SUNY campus libraries have reciprocal borrowing privileges. Search the SUNY Union Catalog to search all SUNY libraries at once or to limit to a specific library within SUNY. You may also search individual catalogs, such as the BISON Catalog at the University at Buffalo.

    Take your Buffalo State ID card if you wish to visit some of the closest libraries such as UB, Erie Community College, or Niagara Community College. If you find a book in another SUNY library, you can also request it via ILLiad, our interlibrary loan service.

    Some local private college libraries loan books through the Library Access Project (LAP). Stop at the Butler Library Circulation Desk to apply for a LAP card.

    The public library will issue a borrower's card to students. Check the Web page of the Buffalo & Erie County Public Library for specific identification requirements before you visit.
