Government Resources

    Federal Trade Commission
    This branch of the federal government is the enforcer for laws relating to consumer protection and fair business practices. Get up-to-date news releases on the home page, a host of consumer education pamphlets in the Consumer Protection section, and reports, regulations and policy statements in the Business Guidance section. There is an Antitrust/Competition section, where the FTC's antitrust activities are covered. Other main topics include Economic Issues, Legal Framework, and Formal Actions, Opinions and Activities.

    U.S. Department of Commerce
    This homepage is an excellent starting point for information about this behemoth of the U.S. government and its bureau subsidiaries. The Bureau of Economic Analysis, an agency of the DOC, provides information on the gross domestic product (GDP), personal income, international transactions, an overview of the U.S. economy, BEA news releases, and much more.

    U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics
    Statistics cover topics such as wages, collective bargaining, and employment, on national and regional levels. Consumer Price Indexes are also included.

    U.S. Government Printing Office
    Access to full-text government publications including the Budget of the U.S.

    U.S. Small Business Administration
    This site has a wealth of resources that pertain to starting, financing and growing a business. There is an online library with publications, forms and shareware to download, a list of SBA offices and services, outreach and regulatory information, and much more.
