Jonathan Mayfield
Bio: I am a criminal justice major at Buffalo State college, and
enjoy making people laugh. I am also a graduate of Ecc
North. My writing tends to break toward the lighter side of
life, because i don't like how complicated life can get. My
writing and speaking style has been described as;
"lighthearted, fun, and entertaining".
Poems:
Past, Present, and Future
Am i the same as everyone else, do we really evolve?
Do we grow up, or just grow into bigger shoes?
I think the child is always alive in us...
A lightning bug jar with a few punched holes
Just enough to keep you alive, i think the child in us
creates fun
The kid in us is what makes us fall into true love
Someone you can have fun with, someone you can "play" with
That word tends to evolve as you get older just as so many
other words do
Love, Life, Fun, Fear...
When you're three feet from the floor you tend to have a
closed view of the world
Height has its advantages, reaching the cookie jar for one
You're the same size as the family dog when you're a kid, of
course you'll be frightened
Still, you grow up or just get taller...some people never
grow up
Or even realize that the world is bigger than them
Some have kids when they are still kids themselves
The future comes quickly
We all grow old, but being happy is a sunset in a rocker
All the while knowing you did something good in your life
So when the lights go out you don't rush to find a new bulb
Because you're heading toward the light anyway.
Stuck in the wrong part of the U.S/
I was born in the south where houses are miles apart
sometimes
And yes, you can wake up to the rooster every morning
Then by some tragic mistake i ended up in the north.
Don't get me wrong i love it, but...
the similarities and differences are really starting to jump
out at me
I have seen enough freaking snowstorms for my lifetime, i've
had it that it's!
I'd be perfectly fine if i never saw another one ever again
In my hometown one inch of snow could close schools
If you applied that rule here, well...we wouldn't have
school much in the winter
When northern kids get bored it seems like we sit around,
play video games, or eat
In the south we ride 4 wheelers, shoot squirrels, and eat.
Eating aside those are very different choices to kill time
The differences in food cannot be ignored either
The north has chicken wings, pizza, and lots of
international foods
The south has pinto beans, collard greens, pork rinds, moon
pies in every flavor you could imagine, and need i saw
fresh... fresh catfish.
I love the north, but i truly believe i am in the wrong part
of the U.S
The Spork
I'm curved, but i'm pointed, rounded and sharp
if i was a human i'd surely be gender confused
playing the game with both sides of the tabletop anatomy
my backside is tight and it grips easily
but i not a defect, far from it
i'm just as you made me
the obvious answer for a society valuing simplicity over
beauty
you may laugh go ahead!
but i could slide across your tongue turn and stab right in
i belong in a survivor kit fit for McGuiver
right next to the toothpicks and popsicle sticks
i'm not a failure and i'm not embarrassed
because i'm the best of both worlds
and i know every piece of silverware wishes they were me
i'm the inbred result of a fork and a spoon
i'm a spork
