New and Experimental Designs
A number of new designs such as the Six Hour Canoe, the Weekend Skiff, various Kayaks, drift boats, utility boats and sailboats have been developed at the center. These include a 16 foot solar powered racing boat for the International Solar Splash competition, and most recently a 28 foot electric launch, the "White Electra," which is a prototype for an inner harbor water taxi.
As well as exploring traditional solutions, students are encouraged to develop new and adaptive designs, especially as they relate to the new ecological challenges.
