With the help of students and community volunteers, the center continues to undertake major restoration projects under the guidance of the faculty and experienced adjunct craftsmen. At present, the Canadiana Restoration Society is restoring the steamer’s Pilot House, the Antique and Classic Boat Society of the Niagara Frontier is restoring a 1927 Richardson Cruiser, a group of volunteers having recently completed an historic wooden snipe are now restoring a 20 foot two masted fishing boat, while other projects are waiting in the wings for volunteers.
In addition to restoring, repairing, and preserving historic boats, the center has built a number of replicas of watercraft which once plied these waters. Built in 1989, the 1840s Buffalo Harbor Water Taxi was the first of these. Subsequently, the center has built the 28 foot two masted 1885 fishing shallop, "Scajaquada," and more recently the 1898 Bird Class catboat once numerous in Buffalo and along the Canadian shore.
