In 1994, the center was asked to build the 18 foot launch for the replica of the 1851 Schooner "America" under construction in Albany. Community volunteers and students were brought in to work on the project which was completed in less than a year.
Much to the benefit of the expanding boat building program, most of the community volunteers stayed on to form the core of volunteers who have since evolved into the present adult outreach programs.
This ever-expanding group not only focuses on restoration and new construction projects, but also serves as an important support to adjunct faculty for the many community youth programs.
