MATHEMATICS DEPARTMENT

The Mathematics Department provides a robust and expansive curriculum for its students. Whether pursuing a degree in mathematics education or pure mathematics, Buffalo State students are supplied with the tools and knowledge for professional placement, advanced learning, and further study.

Students in the undergraduate mathematics programs take the same required core courses, along with the general education courses required by the college, and choose from the same list of mathematics electives.

Programs in Pure Mathematics

Mathematics, B.A.
The mathematics B.A. provides a basis for entry into graduate school in mathematics, mathematics education, or computer science. The degree may also be directed toward a career goal for computer-related government, industrial, or business employment.

Applied Mathematics, B.S.
The applied mathematics B.S. program is directed toward a career goal for computer-related government, industrial, or business employment. It may also provide a basis for entry into graduate school in mathematics or computer science.

Mathematics Minor
The mathematics minor enables students in other majors to develop math skills that will broaden their career options. More information on this study option can be found on the Mathematics Department Server

Programs in Education

Mathematics Education (7-12), B.S.
This degree is directed to a career goal of teaching. This program includes the course requirements leading to the new New York State certification in grades 7-12.

Mathematics Education (7-12; 5-6 Extension), B.S.
This degree is directed to a career goal of teaching. This program includes the course requirements leading to New York State certification in grades 5-12.

Elementary Education Concentration

Elementary Education Certification Extension K-9
