Cassandra received her Ph.D. in African Studies from Howard University in December 2009. This gives her the honor of receiving the first Ph.D. in the program since it was reestablished in 1999. Thanks Dr. St. Vil !

David Matyjasik Scholarship

Named in memory of David Matyjasik, a McNair Scholar who was killed in a tragic car accident just two weeks into his summer research experience.  This scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior who exhibits the true characteristics of a McNair Scholar.  Candidates must first and foremost be accepted to graduate school as well as posessing strong interest in research and teaching. Anyone wishing to contribute to the scholarship may contact Dr. Washington. (see below).

The Eleventh Annual Graduation and Awards Banquet will be held Friday, May 13, 2011 in the Student Union Assembly Hall from 12:00-2:00PM. There will be a raffle and auction to benefit the David Matyjasik Scholarship Fund before the luncheon. Please come celebrate the graduation of our latest cohort and be introduced to our newest scholars.

Congratulations to Angela Lambrix, Nicollete Brown, and Novella Curtis, 2010 Scholarship recipients.

Angela Lambrix is pursuing a Masters in English Literature at the University at Buffalo.

Nicollete Brown is pursuing a Masters in Speech-Language Pathology at Loyola University.

Novella Curtis is pursuing a Masters in School Psychology at SUNY Plattsburgh.


Congratulations to all of the McNair alums who received Masters Degrees this past year!  Good work!  And for those working on your Ph. D.'s we are very proud of you - keep up the good work!
