MINORITY STUDENT SERVICES

CROSS-CULTURAL INITIATIVES

The Diversity Suite was started in the fall of 2003 when Residence Life, the Office of Minority Student Services and Buffalo State College Coalition Building Team decided to gather eight students from different backgrounds to live in a residential suite.  This suite was named the Diversity Suite and is located in North Wing Hall, which also houses the Native American Suite and the Global Living Center.

The Diversity Suite was established so that students from different backgrounds could benefit from a series of diversity trainings and activities designed to enhance their understanding of the groups to which they belong and how community is developed in a diverse environment.  Residents are assisted in the planning and implementation of campus-wide activities, they are required to maintain a journal, attend an NCBI "Welcoming Diversity Workshop" and engage in weekly dialogues.
