Facilities

Music facilities include 44,000 square feet of dedicated teaching, practice, instructional, rehearsal and performance space.

Rockwell Hall, Buffalo State's flagship building, houses the Performing Arts Center, an 800 seat proscenium theater equipped with a wood acoustical shell, orchestra pit, grand piano, and cutting-edge lighting and sound/recording capabilities. Rockwell Hall also features a band/recital room, choral practice room, individual practice rooms, and a music computer lab. The Performing Arts Center serves as the primary performance space for student and faculty concerts and recitals.

The band/recital room is often used for more intimate performances, as well as the primary studio for instrumental ensemble classes and practice. The choral practice room, equipped with grand piano, upright piano, and harpsichord, is where voice lessons, choral classes and rehearsals, and collegium performances are held.  There are also individual practice rooms available for majors.

The Music Department has installed a state-of-the-art computer lab which houses 15 Mac G5s, with midi 88 weighted key digital pianos, mixing consoles, and software. The computer lab also houses a smart console and robotel network. The band room offers a sound isolated recording booth with a 16 channel yamaha mixing console, PowerMac G5 dual processor, a complete pro-tools rack system, and a host of microphone options.

Also, the studio houses 10 networked Yamaha P-120 keyboards with Yamaha headphone/microphone sets (with call boxes) and a Yamaha Clavinova and MLC-100 instructor workstation. The hardware setup is flexible, allowing instructors to group students for small ensemble pieces or practice sessions, as well as permitting one-on-one instruction.
