John Fleischman, Jr., joined the Buffalo State College Music Department in 2008 and teaches Elementary Music Methods, Elementary Field Experience, Music Special Needs Field Experiences, is developing an After-School Choral program with BPS Campus West, and supervises student teachers. He holds Bachelor and Master of Music degrees from the State University College at Fredonia, New York and has done graduate work in voice performance at SUC Fredonia, SUC Potsdam, and the Eastman School of Music. He recently retired as a vocal music instructor in the Orchard Park Central School District after serving there for 33.6 years, He is presently an adjunct lecturer at Buffalo State College, teaching Elementary Music Methods. He is a past-president of the Erie County Music Educators Association and currently serves on its Board of Directors. He previously served as NY ACDA Repertoire and Standards Chair for Children’s Choirs.

Mr. Fleischman is also a member of the New York State School Music Association and the Music Educator's National Conference for whom he is a nationally registered music educator. He was listed as a distinguished educator in Who’s Who Among American Teachers in 1994. In 1995, he was awarded the Artist-Teacher diploma after completing Level III of the Choral Music Experience Institute for Choral Teacher Education under the leadership of Dr. Doreen Rao. In May of 1997, he was the recipient of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Erie County Council of Music Coordinators Award for Excellence in Choral Music Education. Mr. Fleischman was selected by Chorus America to participate as a conducting fellow at their 2007 Conducting Workshop for Children’s Chorus and Orchestral repertoire in San Francisco.

Mr. Fleischman frequently conducts All-County and Area All-State festivals throughout New York and Northern Pennsylvania and serves as a vocal adjudicator for NYSSMA. In the fall of 1988, he founded the Buffalo Niagara Youth Chorus, (formally the Western New York Children’s Chorus). Now numbering 100 singers in four choirs, the Youth Chorus has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus, the Orchard Park Chorale, the Freudig Singers, and the Mississauga Festival Choir (Canada), among others. In 1995, the Children’s Chorus was selected to sing at the inaugural Tuscany International Children’s Chorus Festival in Florence, Italy. They appeared in Carnegie Hall in June of 1996. They have traveled to France, Germany, Amsterdam, England, Scotland and Ireland. In June 2001 they performed in the Crescent City Choral Festival in New Orleans and traveled to Hawaii in July 2002 to perform in the Pacific Rim Choral Festival. In 2006 they returned to Carnegie Hall to sing “Mass of the Children” under the direction of composer John Rutter. In June of 2007, they returned to Italy on an independent concert tour. Their professional recordings are produced by Mark Recording Services of Clarence, NY.

Mr. Fleischman has also performed extensively throughout Western New York as a tenor soloist. He has appeared frequently in area concerts, musicals, recitals and operatic productions. He appeared with the Artpark Opera Chorus for ten summer seasons and sang with the Westminster Choir for 19 years. From 1992 - 1998 he was the music director of the Orchard Park Chorale, an adult community choir. Presently Mr. Fleischman sings with the Buffalo Philharmonic Chorus and maintains a private voice studio.
