Victoria J. Furby is an assistant professor of choral music education at Buffalo State College where she teaches courses in Aural Perceptions and Secondary Choral Methods, supervises student teachers and works within the DaCapo learning community.  Furby is also working with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra Symphony Scholars program in conjunction with Buffalo Public School teachers. 

Prior to her appointment at Buffalo State College, Furby spent four years in residence at The Ohio State University as a graduate teaching assistant, where she studied music education with Dr. Patricia Flowers and conducting with Dr. Hilary Apfelstadt. During her tenure at OSU Furby taught classes in music education for both music and non-music majors and conducted several choral ensembles including Mastersingers and Ladies First.  She was awarded the Joseph Leeder Award for Graduate Teaching Assistants and was invited to join the honorary academic fraternities Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda.  During her public school teaching career Furby taught both high school and junior high choir in addition to working as an elementary teacher at the first grade level.  Dr. Furby conducted high school choral ensembles that received superior ratings at both local and state levels.  She was also the musical director for several acclaimed musicals including West Side Story and the Sound of Music. 

Dr. Furby is actively pursuing a research agenda related to sight-singing instruction and assessment at both the secondary and collegiate levels.  Furby has presented her research at the Ohio Music Educators Conference, the New York State School Music Association Conference and the Eastern Division Music Educators National Conference. Dr. Furby is a member of the Music Educators National Conference, the American Choral Directors Association and the New York State School Music Association.
