For 33 years Mr. Maguda taught at Eden Central School. There he served as the chairman of the music department, director of the Eden High School Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Ensemble. He is currently the director of the Erie County (Music Educators') Wind Ensemble and the Village of Hamburg Concert Band. He is also the assistant director of the Orchard Park Symphony Orchestra. He was the 1998 Recipient of the Excellence in Music Education Award for Instrumental Music given by the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Erie County Music Educators' Association. He was also honored as Teacher of the Year in 1990 and 2001 at Eden Central School.

John Maguda has been the trumpet instructor at Buffalo State College since 1997. As a trumpeter, he regularly performs with Special Edition, the Cathedral Brass, the Galliard Brass and the Orchard Park and Clarence Symphony Orchestras. In addition, he has performed with the Buffalo Philharmonic and with orchestras at Shea's Performing Arts Center and Artpark.

John Maguda is the Festival Administrator of the Erie County Music Educators’ Association, and a member of the Executive Board of the Buffalo Musicians’ Association, Local 92, American Federation of Musicians. He is also a member of the Music Educators’ National Conference, New York State School Music Association and the International Trumpet Guild.
