Programs
Music majors study singing or an instrument and perform both alone and in ensembles before an audience. In addition, music majors study music theory, music history, and the African American music tradition.
Music education majors demonstrate proficiency in an instrument of their choice; study music theory, history, and non-Western musical traditions; and complete required coursework in professional music education.
The Mus.B. program in music education provides student musicians with the skills necessary to teach music performance, history, and theory to students from pre-K through grade 12.
The B.A. program in music provides its majors with opportunities to learn music theory and to perform music as instrumentalists or vocalists. The program offers courses that range from classical music to contemporary music, and explores the contributions of women and various cultures to music.
