Buffalo native Marlene Witnauer holds a bachelor's degree in flute performance and literature from the Eastman School of Music, and a master of music degree from SUNY Buffalo. Highly regarded as a flutist and master teacher, Witnauer's style combines the influence of such notable flutists as Joseph Mariano, Sir James Galway, Samuel Baron, Walfrid Kujala, and Bonita Boyd.

She has performed extensively with the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and is a frequent soloist with the Ars Nova Chamber Orchestra. Her chamber music collaborations include performances with the New Buffalo Woodwind Quintet, the Western New York Chamber Players, and the eclectic ensemble, Musica Reservata. A former faculty member at SUNY Buffalo, Witnauer currently serves on the faculties of Buffalo State College, Canisius College, and SUNY Fredonia.
