Trick or Treat for Change

Buffalo State students- Take the next step!

You can volunteer to help address poverty and homelessness by "trick or treating" throughout the neighborhood to collect pocket change and raise money for organizations that serve the homeless and low income.

  • Sign up on your own, or form a team of 4-6 people
  • Wear creative Halloween costumes (no masks please)
  • Learn about homelessness and how you can help
  • Collect pocket change to benefit the homeless
  • Win prizes for most money raised, best individual costume, and best group theme
You may download and complete this registration form and return it to Cleveland Hall 306 to enter, or call 878-5811.

  • Fall 2009 Volunteer Fair: September 30, 2009

    Area non-profit organizations met with students to recruit volunteers.

  • Community Service Day: April 25, 2009

    Students worked with alumni, faculty, staff and community members at locations throughout Buffalo,returning around noon for lunch.

  • Celebration of Service: May 5, 2009

    The Buffalo State College Celebration of Service is an annual event to recognize and celebrate the important volunteer and service-learning work that Buffalo State College students, faculty and community partners have participated in throughout the academic year. The event includes a visual and poster presentation of service activities, an awards presentation, and time to network and connect with existing and potential partners.

  • NYCC Roundtable: "Effective Methods for Assessing the Impact of Service-Learning on Students, Institutions, and Communities" featuring Dr. Andrew Furco.

  • Martin Luther King Jr. Service Day Project: January 19, 2009

    Asarese-Matters Youth Center, 10:00am-2:00pm

    The Asarese-Matters Youth Center is located at 50 Rees. St near Buffalo State College. The College has officially "adopted" the Center, a vital recreational site for youngsters, one block from the College on the west side of Buffalo. Volunteers will assist at the Center as part of the WNY AmeriCorps MLK Day of Service by painting two interior rooms, sanding and refinishing tables and chairs and administering community survey. Please contact the VSLC for additional information
