Orientation Saturday of Service
Saturday, August 27,2011: 1:00-4:00pm
Buffalo State College Orientation Saturday of Service is an oppportunity for new students to meet their neighbors and each other while working throughout the city of Buffalo to complete revitalization projects. Possible projects might include:
- Community Gardening with Grass Roots Gardens
- Refugee Assistance
- Watershed Clean-up with Riverkeeper
- Housing revitalization with Westside Ministries
- Working with neighborhood block clubs on neighborhood clean-ups

Recent Events
Spring 2011 Community Service Day- April 16, 2011

It was cold, wet and raining, but 160 students traveled to 14 sites throughout the city. They planted trees, cleaned lots, painted a community center, and worked along side block club members. Important work was done.
2011 Alternative Spring Breaks- March 25-April 3

There were two trips this year- one in Buffalo and one in Cleveland.We learned a lot about the cities where we worked, the communities where we were welcomed, and about ourselves and what it means to serve.
Martin Luther King Day of Service- January 17, 2011

On January 17th, 2011, twelve Buffalo State volunteers and 25 community youth collaborated in designing a tile mural for the Asarese-Mattters lobby. Following the mural service project, MLK Day of Service participants prepared and shared a hot nutritious lunch. Afterwards, BSC volunteers brought the young people onto campus for a fun afternoon at the BSC ice skating rink and planetarium.
Refugee Awareness Week- October 11-16, 2011
Members of the Buffalo State campus community met with members of the Buffalo area refugee community to exchange information and ideas.
Volunteer Fair- September 15, 2010

Our Fall 2010 Volunteer Fair hosted 28 area non-profit institutions and agencies. Recruiters reported having more than 729 conversations with students. Many mentioned how committed and focused Buffalo State students are to community service.
