VSLC Celebration of Service Nominations
Please consider making a nomination to recognize Buffalo State students, faculty, and community partners for an award to be presented during the Annual Volunteer and Service-Learning Center (VSLC) Celebration of Service. The Celebration of Service recognizes service-learning, volunteer, AmeriCorps Peer Leader and community work study partnerships that occured throughout the academic year.
There have been some excellent service-learning and volunteer projects this semester, and we strongly encourage you to nominate a student, faculty, community partner NOW, for one or more of the following awards:

Nominations can be submitted using our electronic nomination form or via mail, fax, or e-mail using the standard nomination form.
The deadline for nomination submissions is Monday April 29, 2013, but we strongly encourage you to submit fall nominations at the end of the semester.
Sample nominations are available for viewing if you would like examples of previous submissions.
The awards will be presented during the annual Volunteer and Service-Learning Center (VSLC) Celebration of Service recognition event on May 7, 2013. Over 900 students, 30 faculty and dozens of community organizations have participated in service-learning courses, volunteer efforts, and community work study partnerships in this semester alone.
Please help the VSLC recognize the dedication and service efforts of students, faculty, and community agencies involved in service-learning, volunteerism, and community work-study by nominating deserving individuals and organizations.

Outstanding Student Service-Learning and Academic Learning Connection
Presented to the student who demonstrated exceptional academic achievement through participation in a service-learning course this semester. Describe how the student related the community service experience to course content, and how participation in service-learning affected his or her academic achievement in the class.
Outstanding Student Volunteer
Presented to the student who provided exceptional service to a community agency as a volunteer, NOT through a service-learning course. Describe the service, and contribution to or impact on the agency or clients served.
Outstanding Community Work-Study Student
Presented to the student who provided exceptional service as a Community Work Study participant at a partner agency this semester. Describe the project completed, and/or contribution to or impact on the agency or clients served.
Outstanding Faculty Commitment to Service-Learning
Presented to a faculty member who demonstrated outstanding achievement in connecting learning with community service, facilitating students' delivery of useful service to a community partner through a service-learning course, incorporating innovative service-learning methods in a course, developing leadership and citizenship skills among students, and/or providing unique learning opportunities to service-learning course participants. Describe the nominees work and impact on the students and/or community this semester.
Outstanding Service-Learning Community Partner
Presented to a community agency, group or institution that demonstrated excellence in collaborative work with Buffalo State College students and faculty, resulting in a partnership that produces positive differences in the community and enhances student learning this semester. Describe community partner's collaborative work on the development of an effective service-learning project, and how the project impacted student learning.
Outstanding Community Service by a Student Organization (including academic club, fraternity, sorority, etc.)
Presented to the student organization that provided valuable service to the community, extending their mission and influence beyond the Buffalo State College campus. Describe the service, the contribution to or impact on the community and how the service reflects the mission of the student organization.
Outstanding AmeriCorps Peer Leader
Presented to a Peer Leader for their exemplary service to their community site and the Buffalo State campus. Describe their successful service and the contribution to or impact on the community site.
