Long-Term Care Insurance

New York State Public Employee and Retiree Long-Term Care Insurance (NYPERL) is available for purchase by New York State employees and retirees. Eligible family members (spouse, domestic partner, parents, parents-in-law and dependent children) are also eligible to apply for coverage at the same group rates.

WHAT IS LONG-TERM CARE?

Long-term care is assistance you or your family members may need to carry out basic activities of everyday living in your home or in an extended care facility.  The need could arise from an accident, debilitating illness, or it could simply be the natural result of aging.  You could need long-term care at any time, at any age.

WHY ENROLL NOW?

  • If enrolled within 60 days of eligible appointment, employees are guaranteed issue.  After 60 days, you may be subject to medical underwriting (eligible family members must submit proof of medical eligibility).
  • Once you are accepted for coverage, your coverage cannot be cancelled due to a change in health status.
  • Premiums are at a group rate and are based on your age.  Therefore, the younger you are, the lower your premium.
  • You will receive a 10% premium reduction when both you and your spouse/domestic partner are issued coverage.
