- How can I find out about openings at the College?
We post job openings
as they become available on the HR site.
You may also subscribe to receive vacancy notices by e-mail. Professional and faculty
openings are advertised in the
Buffalo News.
- How do I apply for an opening? For faculty, professional, and
graduate assistant vacancies posted on or after July 1, 2008, apply online at
jobs.buffalostate.edu. For
classified vacancies, if you meet the
requirements for a classified opening, send your resume and cover letter
OR bid form to
Human Resource Management, Cleveland Hall 403.
- Do I need to submit a resume for each job I am interested in? Yes.
- Where do I send my resume if I want to be considered for future
openings? Resumes are only accepted for current openings. A
resume must be submitted each time there is an interest in a particular
opening.
- I am a Buffalo State student. Does Human Resources handle student
employment? No. Students seeking employment on campus should visit
the Financial Aid Office
and/or the Career
Development Center.
- Will I get an interview for a Civil Service
opening if I received a
canvass letter?
A canvass letter is merely an announcement that an opening exists in
the title for which an individual was tested. A person must be reachable to be eligible for an interview.
More information is available on our classified
service page.
- Can I submit a bid form for a Civil Service
opening?
Only if the individual is a permanent employee at the College and
meets the posted qualifications for the position. Employees from other State agencies who
are interested and eligible to transfer to a posted opening must forward a resume and
cover letter to Human Resource Management.
- Where can I get information on appointment
procedures?
HRM
Policies & Procedures Manual
- Who is responsible for employment reference
checking and education verification? The hiring department is
responsible for verifying degree confirmation and employment references. All information
must be verified prior to offer of employment.
- What is an
I-9 and why do
I have to show originals as supporting documentation?
The I-9 is a federally required document which verifies that an individual
is eligible for employment in this country. According to the rules governing
the completion of the I-9, only original documents can be used.
- What documentation is
needed to complete the I-9?
Depending on your status, you can find the required documentation listed on
the back of the I-9 form: one document from list "A" OR one each
from lists "B" and "C".
- How often do I have to
complete an I-9 form?
U.S. citizens: I-9's are valid
continuously unless a break of employment occurs. If an
employee is rehired within three (3) years after original completion of the
I-9, the verifying department needs to complete Section 3 of the I-9 form which requires
recording the date of rehire and a signature and date. If an employee is rehired three (3)
years after his/her last day, a new I-9 must be completed. If the previous work
authorization has expired, but the employee is eligible to work on a different basis, the
verifying party must record the date of rehire, document title and number granting
authorization to hire, sign, and date the form.
International employees on F-1 (student) visas must renew their I-9 each
year. Those on H-1B (specialty occupation) or J-1 (exchange visitor) visas
must have their I-9 updated each time their visa is renewed.
